SUMMARY

I’m a British-Asian freelance media professional based in London, UK, with 33 years of experience in creative arts. I have been active since I was just 6 years old, starting off in 1986, in Sri Lanka. I have subsequently lived and worked in Asia, the Middle East and the United Kingdom.

Most of my work has been focused on fashion commentating, presenting,
entertainment and lifestyle in general. In terms of fashion, lifestyle and promotions, I have worked with several brands, notably Estée Lauder, Gucci, Armani, Roberto Cavalli, Guerlain, Givenchy, Chanel, Nicole Farhi, Volkswagen (car launches) and Hutchison Whampoa (Hong Kong).

Fashion and entertainment presenting/commentating credits include BBC, RTE (Ireland), S4C (Wales), World Fashion Channel (Italy), Fashion TV, Vogue TV, GBC (Gibraltar Broadcasting Corporation), BBC Asian Network, Brit Asia TV, YGTV (Young Gibraltar Television), Spectrum FM, SLBC (Formerly Radio Ceylon – now Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation, the world’s 2nd oldest broadcasting corporation), ITN, E4, ITV, On FM, Gaydar Radio and Stonewall Live USA’s first ever international broadcast.

I won Fashion Icon of the Year 2011 at Fashions Finest Awards UK, and was  nominated for London Personality of the Year 2012 at London Lifestyle Awards. I was also nominated for Positive Role Model 2013 at National Diversity Awards. I am very thankful to all those who voted me when the nominations were opened to the public.

This was very flattering, and many cited my charity work as the reason as to why they voted for me. I was the first ethnic minority to enter these categories at all 3 awards, and I was very pleased. In fact, my fellow nominees at London Lifestyle Awards were Danny Boyle, Boris Johnson, Lord Sebastian Coe and Gary Barlow.

Commentating and presenting was very enjoyable for me. Credits include London Fashion Week, Clothes Show Live, Ideal Home Show, Alternative Fashion Week, The Only Way is Essex Christmas special, Made in Chelsea, and various showbiz parties, launch events and fashion shows.

My own column “‘Diary of a Socialite’ first appeared on the website of Express Broadcast (a small talent agency and production company). It then moved on to Pride Life Magazine, before finally transmuting into ‘Diary of an It Boy’, which, from 2010 onwards, appeared in Laissez Faire – a free newspaper distributed all over central London. Mine was the only column that covered an entire double page spread in the middle. The column gave an account of fashion, show business, society and lifestyle from a male perspective.

From 2013 to 2018, I worked largely behind the scenes, making videos for small businesses, filming at trade shows, overseeing the editing process, as well as hosting numerous private events (mainly social gatherings) and networking events. I was also able to take some time off, mainly spent travelling, visiting family and friends around the world.

I am passionate about presenting and entertaining. I believe the ability to entertain people and make them forget about their troubles, even if it is for a short period of time, is a God-given gift. I feel very comfortable in front of a camera, and I think audiences enjoy my informal, laid back, relaxed and cheerful style of presenting. I have a natural gift for interviewing people. Even strangers open-up to me, and that, surely, is an advantage to any TV Presenter / Host.

In the past I have been drawn to interviewing esoteric individuals, such as the woman who communicated with spirits, the couple that ran tantric retreats and an artist who dressed as a cross between vampire and merman. I was interested in what they had to say and fascinated by their total belief in themselves and their arcane practices and beliefs. I would like to do more of this. I would also welcome the opportunity to present programmes which reflect my own wide-ranging interests; fashion, beauty products, self-grooming, cooking (especially South Asian), travel and
all things canine.

While nearing the end of this decade, I am looking forward to a new beginning, after a well-earned break! I have started putting myself forward to various TV channels, production companies, talent agencies, casting agents etc., in various countries. I would very much like to work overseas! But Britain will always be my base and home.
